Leadership with Purpose
The Board of Directors at McKinley Children’s Center provides essential leadership, accountability, and long-term vision for the organization. Each board member brings unique experience in areas like education, mental health, business, and nonprofit governance. Together, they help guide major decisions, ensure responsible stewardship of resources, and support our mission to empower youth and strengthen families. Their dedication reflects a deep commitment to the community we serve — helping McKinley continue to grow and evolve with integrity.
Board Members
Chuck Coyne
Chairman of the Board
Chuck has been part of the McKinley community since 2017 and was elected Chairman in 2024. A longtime San Dimas resident, he brings decades of leadership experience in publishing, education, and nonprofit service. He also serves on the Bonita Unified School District Board and the La Verne/San Dimas Educational Foundation.
Marilyn Sparks
Chair, Governance Committee
Marilyn is an experienced Insurance Advisor and agency owner representing Farmers Insurance and other carriers. She serves on the Executive Boards of both the Glendora and San Dimas Chambers of Commerce and has held leadership roles with the San Gabriel Valley Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts of Greater Los Angeles. Marilyn also serves as an Insurance Commissioner for Los Angeles County’s 5th District.
David Peña
Chair, Internal Affairs Committee & Treasurer
David brings over 35 years of accounting experience, including 12 years as CFO of Accurate Air Engineering. A San Dimas native, he holds a B.A. in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton, and is a certified CPA. Deeply connected to the McKinley mission through personal ties, David has long been active in community and school programs, volunteering with youth sports, PTA, and the Knights of Columbus. He is also a proud father of four San Dimas High School students and alumni..
Paul Rowley
Co-Chair, Governance Committee
Paul serves as Senior Vice President of Regulated Water Utility, overseeing operations, asset management, environmental quality, customer service, and water resources. He brings extensive executive experience in public utility leadership. Paul earned both his B.S. in Business Administration and M.P.A. from California State University, Northridge.
Alpha Sunusi
Secretary
Alpha is the founder and CEO of Alcam Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics, the largest African American-owned prosthetic company in the U.S., with 10 locations across Southern California. A graduate of California State University Fullerton with a degree in Business Administration, Alpha is a Board-Certified Orthotist and Prosthetist. He also serves as president of the International African American Prosthetic-Orthotic Coalition and is a board member of the Excelling Youth Education Scholarship Program (EYES), supporting literacy and opportunity for youth in Sierra Leone.
Alta Skinner
Board Member
Alta is a lifelong community advocate with over 40 years of volunteer service focused on families, education, and civic engagement. A San Dimas resident for nearly five decades, she is retired from Bonita Unified School District and has co-chaired multiple education bond measures for Bonita USD and Mt. San Antonio College. Alta currently serves as Secretary of the Mt. SAC Foundation and sits on several advisory committees. Her dedication has earned honors including San Dimas Citizen of the Year and Woman of the Year for California’s 25th District.
Dr. Vincent Thomas
Board Member
Dr. Vincent Thomas is a board-certified pediatrician and pediatric cardiologist/electrophysiologist with a lifelong passion for children’s health and well-being. His early exposure to group home environments, through his father’s work, shaped his commitment to serving vulnerable youth. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine and completed pediatric training at CHOC and Emory University. Currently, he serves as Senior Director of Medical Safety at Johnson & Johnson. Vincent brings deep clinical expertise and a heart for service to his role on McKinley’s board.
Peter Shin
Board Member
Peter Shin is a Senior Vice President of Client Services at Spectrum, a leading healthcare advertising agency, and a member of its national leadership team. With over 15 years of experience spanning pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and OTC products, Peter has led award-winning marketing campaigns for global brands like BOTOX, ERBITUX, and iLasik. He has held key roles at Johnson & Johnson and Edwards Lifesciences, driving strategic brand growth across U.S. and international markets. A passionate advocate for health equity and community impact, Peter brings a unique blend of marketing expertise and heart for service to McKinley’s Board.
Heidi Twitchell
Board Member
Heidi Twitchell is a former elementary school teacher turned real estate professional with a deep passion for education, housing advocacy, and community service. With degrees and certifications in Gifted and Multicultural Education, she spent over a decade in classrooms across Utah and California, where she championed arts-integrated learning. Now a member of the Redfin Rise team, Heidi works to address affordable housing and homelessness in Los Angeles and Orange County. She brings a compassionate, hands-on spirit to McKinley’s Board, fueled by her commitment to helping vulnerable youth and families thrive.
Isaac Loera
Board Member
Isaac Loera serves as the Chief Quality Officer and Chief Equity Officer at the California Institution for Women under Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS). Since beginning his healthcare career in 2007, Isaac has taken on a series of leadership roles focused on quality improvement, patient safety, and health equity. He holds an MBA from the University of La Verne, is a Certified Professional in Health Care Quality, and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. His commitment to advancing equitable care and systems-level impact aligns strongly with McKinley’s mission of empowering underserved communities.
Dr. Sandeep Krishnamurthy
Board Member
Dr. Sandeep Krishnamurthy is the Singelyn Family Dean of the College of Business Administration and the Singelyn Graduate School of Business at Cal Poly Pomona. A respected academic leader and published expert in digital marketing and open-source business models, he holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Arizona. Dr. Krishnamurthy brings a unique blend of business acumen and educational innovation to McKinley’s board. He co-founded the Digital Transformation Affinity Group at AACSB International and previously served on the Board of the Bellevue Chamber. His passion for mentorship, equity in education, and forward-thinking leadership directly supports McKinley’s mission to empower youth and families.
Kelly Moore
Board Member
Kelly Moore brings over 30 years of experience in public and private sector leadership, with a strong focus on public relations and community-building in the construction industry. Inspired to join McKinley after attending a Women’s Conference, Kelly is deeply committed to supporting children, military veterans, and underserved communities. She is the Founder and CEO of the Valued Veterans Program, which supports homeless and recently discharged veterans. A proud military spouse and mother of four—including two sons in active military service—Kelly’s dedication to service is rooted in both professional expertise and personal experience. She is honored to help guide McKinley’s mission of empowering youth and families.
Don Eklund
Board Member
Don Eklund is a retired Chief Technology Officer from Sony Pictures with decades of innovation in consumer entertainment technology. He played a key role in the launch of DVD and Blu-ray formats and holds multiple patents in media compression and content security. Don’s personal journey—from youth in the foster care system to a successful career in technology—fuels his passion for mentorship and service. His lived experience brings a powerful perspective to McKinley’s mission of supporting children and families. In retirement, Don enjoys woodworking, aviation, and cycling.
