Welcome to the McKinley Campus

Nestled in the heart of Southern California, the McKinley campus is more than a set of buildings — it’s a place where hope takes root. From therapy rooms to classrooms, gardens to music halls, every space is designed to support the growth and healing of the youth and families we serve.

Where Healing and Learning Happen

Each area of McKinley’s campus serves a unique purpose in supporting youth on their path to wellness and growth. Below are just a few highlights of the safe, welcoming spaces we’ve created together.

MUSIC BUILDING

McKinley’s Music Room offers a creative space where youth can express themselves, build confidence, and develop new skills. Through music, they find a powerful outlet for connection, healing, and personal growth.

WELLNESS PATH

Our Wellness Walking Path offers both our CVS students and STRTP youth a peaceful space to move, reflect, and recharge. Designed to encourage physical activity and mindfulness, the path weaves through thoughtfully landscaped areas of campus, creating a calm environment away from daily stressors. Team members often incorporate the walking path into therapeutic sessions, classroom breaks, and individual reflection time, allowing youth to regulate emotions, practice coping strategies, and build healthy routines.

Movement plays a critical role in mental health and overall well-being. Whether used for structured group activities or quiet personal walks, the Wellness Walking Path supports emotional balance, resilience, and self-care. It is a simple but powerful reminder that healing happens not only in offices and classrooms, but also in moments of fresh air, steady steps, and supportive conversation.

Kitchen & Dining Hall

McKinley’s Dining Hall, supported by the Huntington Culinary Dining Hall Team, provides more than just daily meals. It creates a space for connection, routine, and community. The team is committed to serving nutritious, thoughtfully prepared meals that support the health and well-being of the youth we serve. Through consistency and care, the Dining Hall fosters a welcoming environment where young people can gather, recharge, and feel a sense of belonging.

REC ROOM

Our Recreation Room is a welcoming space designed specifically for youth in our Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP). More than just a place to unwind, it is a space where connection, confidence, and community are built every day.

Equipped with comfortable lounge seating, games, and entertainment options, the Rec Room offers healthy outlets for fun and stress relief. Youth can play board games, shoot pool, watch movies, listen to music, or simply spend time together in a safe, supervised setting.

Recreation is an important part of healing. Through shared activities, youth practice social skills, teamwork, communication, and emotional regulation in a natural and supportive environment.

SWIMMING POOL

For many of the youth we serve, swimming and access to safe aquatic recreation have not always been part of their everyday experiences. Pool time at McKinley helps close that gap by giving young people the chance to build water safety skills, grow their confidence, and take part in activities that are often woven into school, family, and community life. Learning to swim is not just about recreation. It is an important life skill that supports safety, belonging, and self-confidence in a wide range of settings.

Our work around water activities is intentionally trauma-informed. We understand that for some youth, being in or around water can feel unfamiliar, overwhelming, or even connected to difficult past experiences. Staff focus on creating both emotional and physical safety by offering choice, introducing activities gradually, setting clear expectations, and maintaining consistent supervision. Youth are never pushed beyond their comfort level. Instead, they are encouraged and supported at a pace that feels right for them.

In this kind of environment, time at the pool becomes more than just fun. It is a space where youth can build trust, develop new skills, strengthen resilience, and feel more prepared for everyday life beyond our campus.

WORKOUT ROOM

A vibrant gym with weight machines and benches. The colorful graffiti wall displays motivational words like "Power" and "Energy," creating an energetic atmosphere.

Our Workout Room gives youth a healthy outlet for stress, energy, and personal growth. For many young people in our care, access to a safe and supportive fitness space has not always been consistent. Having this resource on campus creates an opportunity to build lifelong habits around movement, health, and self-discipline.

Physical activity plays an important role in emotional regulation and mental well-being. Whether lifting weights, using cardio equipment, or following a structured fitness plan, youth learn how movement can help manage anxiety, improve mood, and strengthen resilience. Team members are present to provide supervision, guidance, and encouragement, helping youth set realistic goals and celebrate progress along the way.

The Workout Room is more than a fitness space. It is a place where youth learn self-care, perseverance, and healthy coping strategies that can carry with them long after they leave our campus.
